Take part in the Belgian Renovation Week, organised in the framework of the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council

As part of its Presidency of the Council, Belgium is hosting an event to address some of the barriers to the roll-out of the Renovation Wave, a key pillar in the EU’s strategy to attain climate neutrality. The event will be the start of a general discussion among Member States, and its conclusions could inform the new incoming European Commission.

The event, which is called the Belgian Renovation Week, will focus on different facets (funding; sustainable building materials; skilled workforce etc.) and will take place from the 15th to the 18th of January 2024, at Maison de la Poste, Rue Picard 7 - Tour & Taxis, Brussels. The event holds a special focus on European policy makers, recognising their pivotal role in shaping regulations and standards that can propel the renovation movement.

Day 1: Navigating Renovation Challenges in the European Union

Kicking off the event is an afternoon dedicated to fostering high-level discussions.

Panel members: Ditte Juul Jørgensen - Director-general DG ENER, Oliver Rapf - Executive Director BPIE, Julie Kjestrup – President EuroAce, Chiara Martinelli – Director CAN Europe, moderated by Kira Taylor - Climate and Energy reporter

Day 2: Transitioning the Building Sector for Tomorrow

On the second day, our attention is directed towards the ongoing transition within the building sector. In a thorough exploration of the subject, the agenda meticulously examines multiple themes, including the Energy Performance Certificate, the 'Heat Pump Action Plan,' the role of adaptation and co-creation in construction, innovation, a forward-looking perspective on deep renovations towards 2050, and the concept of One Stop Shops

Day 3: Materials at the heart of the transition towards sustainable buildings

On day three we invite you to discover the pivotal role of materials in propelling the journey towards sustainable buildings. Beyond the energy performance metrics, the discussion shifts to encompass a broader narrative—reducing greenhouse gases through strategic material choices and embracing the circular economy. Pioneering actions in this realm serve as an inspiration, with action plans, trainings, tools, and project calls lighting the way.

Day 4: Unlocking social innovations

On the final day, we will shift perspectives by promoting the social and sociotechnical aspects of energy renovation: from a techno-economic approach to a sociotechnical approach, from buildings to neighbourhoods, from non-vulnerable to vulnerable households. We will build a bridge between the technical world and the complexity of human behaviours. We will question our collective and individual perceptions of energy renovation and share inspiring projects to improve the households support, raise awareness, mobilize, and empower people.
