The WaloSCRAP II grant, awarded to GreenWin by the Minister for the Environment and managed by the SPW-environnement (DSD), took effect in December 2016, ending in February 2019. Its objective was to allow for activities undertaken under the preceding WALOSCRAP grant period to be continued, i.e the, identification and quantification of exploitable waste materials and secondary materials in Wallonia, for which R&D or investment projects – whether in respect of collection/treatment or, equally, industrial valorisations – could be put forward with the assistance of GreenWin.
The deposits of materials studied under this convention, were, in order of prioriy:
> plastics and composites,
> refractories ;
> bituminous materials ;
> organic waste ;
> construction and demolition waste (C&D).
Through the activities undertaken within the framework of this grant, it was possible to evaluate the exploitable nature of certain of the waste groups from these deposits, which allowed us to identify the following in Wallonia :
> information in respect of available deposits (quantity and quality),
> monitoring of skills and expertise allowing for the recycling and valorisation of these materials and of the R&D or investments required for the application of technical treatment and valorisation solutions, and
> Certain key elements in business plans to validate their feasibility.
GreenWin has continued its discussions with the SPW-DSD and the office of the Minister for the Environment in relation to the establishment of a WALLACE cell within GreenWin dedicated to the circular economy and steered by a committee composed of representatives from the SPW-DSD and the office of the Minister of the Environment amongst others. This convention will help to establish an exact and detailed state of affairs in respect of the circularity of industrial waste streams, and clearly identify the technological and non-technological bolts needing to be to be unlocked to accelerate transition towards an economy that is truly circular.
