How can AI4Recycle help increasing the use of recycled plastic? To find out meet Paul VANABELLE

The recycling of thermoplastics is a strategic axis at European level. Currently, the majority of recycled plastics are used in the manufacture of low added value products and are mainly based on polyolefins (HDPE, PELD, PP). The use of recycled plastics in the manufacture of new parts can have a negative impact on the quality of the parts produced, both visually and mechanically. The main objective of the project is to develop an AI-based model which correlates quality parameters with process parameters and which makes it possible to detect continuously and in predictive mode the drifts likely to cause scrap while maximizing the use of recycled plastics. The main goal is to help manufacturers use as much recycled plastic as possible in the manufacture of their high value-added products while controlling costs.

Paul VANABELLE is Expert Research Engineer in Data Science at CETIC,  an accredited research centre in ICT in Belgium. He is also Expert in Digital Transformation for the Factory of the Future programme by DigitalWallonia. As researcher, he is leading several research projects and transfer missions to companies in Manufacturing and Healthcare fields. Before that, he made his way up in the private sector as  R&D Engineer in the field of speech synthesis  where he developed skills in machine learning and signal processing. Paul owns a master's degree in electrical engineering specializing in telecommunications and multimedia from the polytechnic faculty of Mons (UMONS 2001) and has completed additional training in the management of innovation and creativity (UMONS 2003).

About the Conferences…

The purpose of the conferences is to screen the digital technology used to boost activities in the fields of green chemistry and white biotechnology around the world, to share knowledge and encourage the creation of new R&D projects in the sector at regional and international scale.

The first day, on 28 September, will focus on Digital Transition while the second one, on 29 September, will focus on Artificial Intelligence. Both days will be animated by Tieneke Van Hooland, from Bio.be by essenscia.
